Volgens PSV.nl niet de reguliere starttijd van 20:45 uur...??

Head-to-head
PSV have won only one of their six European meetings with FC Barcelona (W1-D3-L2). It was the first of six encounters between the two.

In the semifinals of the 1977/78 UEFA Cup, PSV won 3-0 at home. The home side scored through Antonio Olmo (own goal), Harry Lubse and Paul Postuma.

The return leg was won 3-1 by FC Barcelona, sending PSV through to the final 4-3 on aggregate. Carles Rexach (twice) and Francisco Fortes scored for the home side and PSV's Nick Deacy netted the crucial away goal.

The teams next met in the quarterfinals of the 1995/96 UEFA Cup. The match in Barcelona finished 2-2, with Luc Nilis scoring a brace for the visitors and José Bakero and Abelardo scoring for the home side.

The return leg was won 3-2 by FC Barcelona in Eindhoven with Bakero, Luis Figo and Sergi scoring for the visitors, who had Nadal sent off in the 58th minute. Boudewijn Zenden and René Eijkelkamp scored for the home side.

Following that 1995/96 season, Ronaldo joined FC Barcelona from PSV. Zenden would also later join Barça and those who represented both clubs also include Romário, Ronald Koeman and PSV's current and former head coach, Mark van Bommel and Phillip Cocu.

These teams most recently met in the group stage of the 1997/98 Champions League. Both meetings ended in a 2-2 draw.

The most recent meeting at Camp Nou took place on 1 October 1997. Luis Enrique scored a brace for the hosts and Cocu and Peter Møller netted for the visitors. Neither FC Barcelona nor PSV made it past the group phase.

FC Barcelona lost only two of their 18 meetings with Dutch opponents, the 3-0 defeat against PSV in the 1977/78 UEFA Cup and 2-1 at Ajax in the group stage of the 2013/14 Champions League.

FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona will participate in the CL main competition for the 23rd time, extending the record they share with Real Madrid with FC Porto.

FC Barcelona will appear in the CL for the 15th successive season and have been ever present since 2004/05. They have lifted the trophy four times in that span (2005/06, 2008/09, 2010/11 and 2014/15).

FC Barcelona are one of two teams that have won the Champions League more than three times since its instalment in 1992/93. Real Madrid have won it seven times since then.

FC Barcelona won Europe's premier club competition for the first time in 1991/92, the last season of the Champions Cup. FC Barcelona are one of five clubs that have won the Champions Cup/Champions League at least five times, alongside Real Madrid (13), AC Milan (7), FC Bayern München (5) and Liverpool (5).

FC Barcelona have collected 12 trophies in Europe's three major European cup competitions (Champions Cup/Champions League, Cup Winners' Cup and Fairs Cup/UEFA Cup/Europa League). Only Real Madrid (15) have amassed more.

FC Barcelona received an automatic berth into the Champions League as the reigning La Liga champions.

FC Barcelona were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Champions League in each of the previous three seasons, by Atlético Madrid in 2015/16, by Juventus in 2016/17 and by AS Roma last season.

FC Barcelona have reached the knockout stages in each of their last 16 CL participations. The last time they failed to do so was 2000/01. They finished top of their group in each of their previous 11 participations.

Lionel Messi has scored exactly 100 goals in the CL main competition. Only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more (120).

PSV can become the 30th different CL opponents Messi scores against. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (32) and Raúl (33) have netted against a greater variety of opponents in the competition.

PSV
PSV are the reigning Dutch champions and reached the CL by defeating BATE Borisov in the final round of qualifying. For the first time since 1993/94 the Dutch champions did not receive an automatic berth into the main competition.

In 1992/93, the first season of the Champions League, Dutch champions PSV successfully negotiated two rounds of qualifying, against Lithuania's Zalgiris Vilnius and Greece's AEK, to reach the group stage.

PSV will make a 16th participation in the CL main competition, most by any Dutch club. Ajax will be making their 14th this season.

The last time Netherlands had two teams in the CL main competition was in 2010/11 (then: Ajax and FC Twente).

As a player, current PSV head coach Mark van Bommel featured in the CL main competition in 12 different seasons. Among Dutch players, only three have featured in more: Arjen Robben (16, could become 17 this season), Clarence Seedorf (13) and Wesley Sneijder (13). Van Bommel represented Barça in nine matches in their 2005/06 CL winning campaign, including the final against Arsenal. That season would remain his only with FC Barcelona in the competition.

Van Bommel will join Phillip Cocu as the only two persons to have represented PSV in the CL main competition both as a player and a head coach.

PSV are one of the former winners of the Champions Cup/Champions League. In 1987/88, they won the trophy before the Champions League era had begun.

PSV survived the group stage in only four of their previous 15 CL participations. Their best showing in the tournament is reaching the semifinals in 2004/05. They were eliminated by AC Milan on the away goals rule and the second leg of those semifinals featured Mark van Bommel's last European appearance for PSV.

PSV last took part in the CL in 2016/17. They finished last in a group that also contained Atlético Madrid, FC Bayern München and FC Rostov.
